All About Us

Since 1990, From the Ground Up (FTGU) has provided project oversight on masonry and concrete projects, landscape installation, drainage corrections, demolition, grading and irrigation. Our capabilities extend to residential home building, home restoration and home additions.

Thomas Rackley, founder of FTGU, spent the early years of his career as grounds foreman for the Atlanta Botanical Garden. There, his responsibilities included soil preparation, tree and plant installation, irrigation and maintenance and correction of drainage problems. While at the Botanical Garden Rackley oversaw the installation of the rose gardens, the vine arbor, crepe myrtle walk, the nature areas and nature pond, irrigation repair and supervised the numerous renovation projects.

Rackley used his broad experience as a springboard to launch FTGU as a full-service landscape business. Over the past decade, the expertise of the company has expanded to include what is now the firm’s primary focus: custom masonry work that includes stone, brick and custom cut limestone.

Many of Atlanta’s finer homes, parks and commercial properties showcase the artful work of FTGU.
